Spice Up Your Kitchen!

Okay, I know this is a non-paint related blog, but really wanted to share with y'all anyways :)
If you are looking for a easy, fresh new way to add some pizzazz to a lack-luster kitchen, here are some quick fixes you can try...

Fancify that boring range top with beautiful candles or maybe even a snazzy frame. Now I do realize that if you are a serious cooker this may not be an option for you since they will need to be moved when cooking. But to be honestly for someone like me whose motto is "I KNOW how to cook, I just DON"T do it", trust me...you will love it!

Next up...ditch that old boring stainless utensil holder and replace it with something a little less ordinary. I found this great candle holder a couple of years ago at a home goods store. It has earned its keep around here as a toothbrush holder, a pen holder, and now houses my most used utensils.

My next tip will help to trick guests into thinking you are serious chef, HA! Don't hide those expensive bottles of oil (or if your cheap like me, the expensive ones you bought for next to nothing at TJ Maxx) put them on display! I used an old, mirrored tray that I had in storage that was my great grandmother's. I know it was nothing expensive, but I love having it out now to use, it is a great conversation piece, and keeps everything together and organized.

Look at what a great story these items tell when they are placed together. Something old, something new...makes me actually want to spend a little time in my kitchen. Well...that feeling didn't last for long, lol

The best part is that I shopped for all of these items in my home, which is totally in my price range right now! The moral of this story...be willing to look at items beyond what they were originally intended for and you never know what greatness will transpire.

Thanks for stopping by again! I will be gone for the weekend, so y'all have a great one and I will see ya next week! btw, kiddos start school next week (and Momma too)!

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Crazy...

The oddest thing happened after I hit that little "Publish Post" button for my post yesterday...I got this awesome little high from it! I started dancing around I was soooo excited. The kids "officially" think I am crazy now, they already thought I was unofficially crazy anyways, oh well! lol

So, here are the curtains I made last week for the breakfast nook. I am very happy with them, they warmed up the area a lot and create a great backdrop for the new chairs...

See...this is the nook without them...pretty bare, huh?

And after... :)

This fabric from Warehouse Fabrics (I believe it is called "Kimono" in chocolate) is just too fab! Love, love, love

I made them as simple as possible since they are stationary panels. Just did a simple fold over twice to hide the edges, ironed them, and then sewed a straight seam!

I am a novice at sewing, so if I can do this you can too! I find that I spend less when I make my own curtains and also get a finished product that no one else I know has at their place ;)

Well, that wraps it up for today! Thanks for stopping by, y'all have a great day and I can't wait to talk to ya tomorrow!!!

~Long Time no Read!~

Hey there! Wow, I think on top of being the world's slowest typist, I am also the slowest blogger, ha! With summer winding down and the kiddos heading back to school (as well as me starting my last year of college-YAY I am FINALLY a senior!!!) I THINK I will be able to truely start a real blog...I am saying this with fingers crossed, just in case ;)

Well, I finally wanted to show off my painted Chippendale chairs, which have been getting lots of use! Since I finally located my camera cord after playing the "If I were a camera cord where would I be hiding game" I can show them off!

This is the Before (or a pic that looks just like it as I of course painted before snapping a pic, but you get the idea )....

And this is the AFTER!!! :)))....

Much better wouldn't ya say?!? I am not in love with the fabric, I am waiting on the "official" fabric to come in the mail, should be here in a few days. I will make sure to put updated pics up when it comes in.

They add that perfect, much needed splash of color to the breakfast nook...

And I am soooo glad that I finally got around to sharing them with y'all! Thanks for looking...

Oh, and I also made the curtains you see in the picture last week, maybe that can be my next post, so I officially have something to write about!

Hello World!

Okay, I am totally aware at this point that I am typing on here to noone...but that's okay...for now :) Anywho, a little about why I am starting a blog. Well, I am 35 and I DO NOT know how to properly type, yes that is right, I know I am probably the only person I know in this predicament. So, needless to say I have officially reached a point in my old age where I am tired of watching everyone else's fingers flying away around me and have decided it is high time to teach myself so I will be tortured no more! I am also a college student, so hopefully this will save me some valuable time next school year. I am using some free online tutors and I read a tip that said to start typing a journal, so voila! here I am!
Please bear with me, I promise to make future posts more jazy as I hunt-and-peck away...
I want yall to join me this summer as I stumble throught the various projects that I have planned. I will be fancifying some furnishings, brushing up on my Spanish, and the typing thing of course among other ventures. I think I will post a pic of the Chippendale chairs I am working on later today or tomorrow...c ya soon!
